Today in west civ we took the prelims to our exams . i decided to write about the gov similarities and differences from rome and the US. I talked about the way arts developed between rome and Greece. and then talked about the geographical luck of rome Egypt and Greece

Circus Maximus-

The Circus Maximus is an ancient Roman chariot racing stadium and mass entertainment venue located in Rome, Italy.
Wooden bleacher like seats
Created in 329 bc
Was eventually turned into marble

Coliseum- The Colosseum or Coliseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater is an elliptical amphitheater in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy.
Had vast tunnels underneath for gladiators animals and other things

Aqueducts
Arches
held by gravity
used gravity to transport water
high in the air

Roman forum
Lots of arches
giant square that formerly was surrounded by gov buildings
made of brick

Today

Today we jumped into the world of ancient greece and started to learn about it. The ancient greeks had to import lots of goods. They could not grow a lot because greece is very mountainous. They had the best navy of the time. They grew olives grapes and grains and the main meat they had was fish.

Temple of Apollo at Didyma. It was built in 300 BC. 
It was made to have two sets of columns surrounding 
the inside 
called a dipteral. Only 3 columns are left there were 
thought to be 126 








The Temple of Hephaestus 
This temple was built in Athens. In the seventh century it was
 converted to a church. this church is still in use today. The temple was originally built for Hephaestus god of metal work and volcanoes.

the bodies of water that surround Greece are the Adriatic Sea, Aegean Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. 
the large island to the south/southeast is Crete. 
There are tons of little city states around but they are all united

Today

Today in class you were not here so l worked on the assignment you gave us. In class I went to your blog and went over the whole Egypt power point  I made sure that i had  notes on the geography, gods and goddesses, everyday life social classes and so on. I made sure that i understood the social pyramid and that it went pharaoh, government/noble priests, soldiers, scribes, merchants, artists, farmers, slaves/servants. I also made sure that i understood how important the Nile is to them for agriculture.

We continued to watch the video about how the world developed. There were 14 animals that helped found humanity. Camels cattle of all sorts goat sheep horses llamas any large animal that can work. If we hadn't tamed these animals we wouldn't be able to work more land and grow larger
